The Owl — Inner Sight

This piece began as a return.

The first version of the Owl was created for the owner of Café Jardim, whose Power Animal is the Owl. She is from Hawaii, and that became the starting point for the composition — an owl surrounded by flora inspired by the islands, carrying a sense of lushness, ocean, color, and tropical life.

Café Jardim also holds an important place in my own story. It was where I had my first solo exhibition in October 2025, and where I first saw my Power Animal works gathered together in one space.

Returning to the Owl on a larger scale felt like revisiting that threshold from a different place in my practice. The image was familiar, but I had changed.

For this version, I wanted the Owl to feel more expansive and alive. I introduced gold for the first time, drawn to the way it catches the light against the black ink and brings a sense of warmth and quiet illumination. The blue connects to the ocean, while the pink carries something of Hawaii’s flowers and tropical landscape.

Recreating the Owl became a way of honoring where the work began while allowing it to become something new.

Symbolism

The Owl carries the quality of seeing beyond what is immediately visible.

She moves through darkness with extraordinary awareness — listening, observing, waiting before acting. Her presence speaks to intuition, discernment, and the ability to perceive what might otherwise remain hidden.

In this piece, inner sight is not about knowing every answer. It is about becoming quiet enough to notice what is already there.

The gold became especially meaningful within that idea: a small illumination emerging from darkness, suggesting that clarity does not always arrive all at once. Sometimes it appears gradually, through attention.

For me, the Owl became both a symbol of intuition and a mirror for the evolution of my own practice — returning to something familiar and seeing it differently because I was no longer the same artist who first created it.

What might the Owl awaken in us when we become quiet enough to see beyond the surface?
