The Lioness — Empress of Strength

The Lioness has been one of the most important animals in my own journey.

My connection to her deepened after an encounter in the Serengeti in 2017. I remember being struck not only by her power, but by the way she carried it — without display, without urgency. There was a stillness in her presence that felt just as powerful as movement.

Years later, during my shamanic practitioner training in Portugal, the Lioness emerged again as my own Power Animal. She became connected in my mind with courage, protection, and a quieter kind of authority — the kind that comes from knowing one’s strength without needing to prove it.

When I created this piece, I wanted to hold that feeling of presence.

The reds, oranges, and yellows were inspired by the warmth of the savannah and the intensity of the landscape where I first encountered her. Within the composition, the Lioness is accompanied by an Owl and a Hummingbird — animals that have come to represent wisdom, joy, and resilience in my own symbolic world.

Symbolism

The Lioness carries strength in a way that feels both powerful and deeply relational. She hunts, protects, rests, raises young, and moves as part of a larger social world.

What draws me most to her is the balance between power and stillness. Strength does not always need to be loud, forceful, or visible. Sometimes it appears as patience, discernment, protection, or the ability to remain grounded in the face of uncertainty.

In this piece, the Lioness became a mirror for that kind of inner authority — a reminder that courage can exist alongside tenderness, and that stillness itself can be an expression of power.

The Owl and Hummingbird add other dimensions to that strength: the capacity to see clearly, and the ability to remain connected to joy even through difficulty.

What might the Lioness awaken in us about the strength we already carry, even when it is quiet?
