The Wolf, 2025 Black ink and graphite on paper
I began drawing the Wolf after a long pause in my art practice — slowly, over several months, in the stillness of my studio. It felt like a quiet return to something I'd been missing. I always knew I wanted to draw my partner's Power Animal. As the piece emerged, I found myself thinking about the qualities he embodies: the protector, the loyal companion, the one who leads with instinct and heart. His gaze mattered most to me — strong, but softened by tenderness. From his chest, I let his heart expand outward into branching forms, a way of showing how he loves: expansive, generous, unlimited. This Wolf became more than a portrait. It became a tribute to the kind of love that protects and stands quietly beside you — the strength that doesn't need to be loud to be felt.
Wolves have walked alongside humans longer than almost any other animal. In myth and memory, they've stood for loyalty, intuition, and the kind of devotion that runs deep beneath the surface — the protector who guards the pack, the companion whose presence is felt before it's seen. Across many traditions, the wolf is the animal of family, of leadership earned through care, and of the wild knowing that lives in the body.
